Funerals: what to think about

Is there anyone who would like to speak during the service? You could read the eulogy or relating your personal memories of the deceased or even just read a poem.

The eulogy is the most important part of the service. Before our meeting, it can help you to write down a few details. You might like to think about the following things:

  • Deceased's nickname
  • Date and place of birth
  • Early family life and schooling
  • Work history
  • Relationships and family
  • Any particular stories and sayings that are characteristic
  • Hobbies and interests

During the service either a family member or close friend can read the eulogy. Alternatively I am very happy to do it.

It is also good to think about any music that you might want played during the service.

There are normally three pieces: one on entering the chapel, a second played during the service and a final leaving piece. (If you have difficulty choosing, don't worry, we can work that out together when we meet.)
